Flash Game Roundup

Here are a few great Flash games that have held my interest for more than a few minutes. Most links came from Game|Life (thanks Chris).

  • Winterbells – Very simple but well build game. Kind of a variant on the kick-up type games.
  • Flash Element TD – A Flash game based on a mod of Warcraft III? It’s a simple but addictive strategy game.
  • Four Second Firestorm – A WarioWare clone created by several different development teams. Very fun but I don’t know who still wants listen to that Eurotrash Club music.

OK, OK, I promised myself I wouldn’t knock on Vista until I’ve really given it a fair shot, and I think that’s what I was doing when I went to the Vista features showcase too see what fantastic new innovations are on their way from Redmond. I’m sure it’s no surprise that most of them had already been fantastically innovated by their competitors.

But there are some among these which many of us have been enjoying for so long now that they are as much features of an operating system as a steering wheel is a feature of a car. So without further ado, I present

Point-and-Click Development

After visiting a Games for Change salon last night, I spent some time thinking about the possibilities for developing point and click adventure games (a la king’s quest, Monkey Island, etc.). After some googling, I found these resources shared here for your benefit:

2007 Tech Preview

For the first time since the second time I dropped out of college, I feel compelled to dedicate large amounts of time to learning new things. 2007 seems to be the year that everything new comes out (well, actually most of it came out last year but this is the year we start to care). Is this Web 2.5? or maybe just a patch – Web 2.0.1? or maybe it’s something else less cheezy than either, just an interesting time for technology. Whatever it is, if they actually taught this stuff at a university, I would quit my job and become a student again.

Here’s a list of some of the new platforms, technologies, and languages I’m interested in learning about right now. I would love to receive comments on these if you’ve got anything to share or if you see something I may have missed.
