I’ve been in Detroit, Michigan with my fiancé’s family this December with nothing to do but hang out. It’s been really amazing. I’ve done a lot of reading about some pretty heady CS topics and also watched a lot of TV. Here’s a list:
Reading:
- Code Complete
- The Wikipedia entry on C# and any related entries that I wasn’t familiar with
- C# Station tutorials
- This article and this article on bitwise math and manipulation
- Game Developer Magazine – Good articles on what went wrong in post-mortems and over-spec’ing design documents
- Einstein’s Dreams
Movies & TV:
- No Reservations Marathon
- The Bear who slept through Christmas
- Flight of the Conchords
- Eragon
- Summer Heights High
- Scrooged
- Home Alone
- Enemy Mine
- I Am Legend
- 8-Mile
- The Serpent and the Rainbow
- The People under the stairs
- Die Hard
- and of course… It’s a wonderful life
Einstein’s Dreams is such a fantastic little collection of stories. A great book to keep coming back to.
Thinking about that book, and looking at your icon… I want to play Braid now.
And if you ever get a chance, the Underground Railway Theater in Boston puts on a play based on Lightman’s stories, and it’s just as engaging as the book. I believe they’ve traveled with it a bit, so it’s worth keeping an eye out.
And admit it, “The Bear who slept through Christmas” was the highlight of your break.
